Sierra Frontier Medical Resource
SFMR
A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Sierra Frontier Medical Resource, Inc. (SFMR) is dedicated to strengthening healthcare in western Sierra County, California. SFMR's mission is to secure the financial and other resources necessary to ensure that residents and visitors have access to essential health services, including primary, urgent, and emergency care.

What We Do
Our Approach
Our organization, Sierra Frontier Medical Resources, Inc. (SFMR), is dedicated to improving emergency healthcare in the geographically remote area of Western Sierra County, California. We focus on enhancing emergency and trauma resources by sponsoring training and implementing new projects.

Immediate Aid
We are working to provide advanced, life-saving medical services that are currently beyond the scope of volunteer responders in Western Sierra County. Our key initiative is the Western Sierra County Paramedic Pilot Project, which aims to hire a full-time paramedic to be stationed in the area during the summer.
Assessment
Formed in 2014, our non-profit organization continually assesses the emergency healthcare needs of the community. We've identified a need to improve services for a scenic but remote area with limited access to emergency and trauma resources. Our efforts, including sponsoring training for health aides and EMTs, are a direct result of this ongoing evaluation.
Recovery Plans
Our current focus is on enhancing emergency response and pre-hospital care rather than post-incident recovery. Our primary goal is to provide immediate, life-saving medical services to the community.

How It Works:
SFMR Funding and Donations
Funding and donations are essential for Sierra Frontier Medical Resources (SFMR) to maintain critical health and emergency services for the community. Sierra County provides direct governmental support by utilizing a Board of Supervisors Sponsored Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) increase for EMS. This financial mechanism helps sustain the area’s emergency medical services, demonstrating a commitment from local government to resident and visitor safety.

Our Mission, Their Voice
Sierra Frontier Medical Resources (SFMR) is dedicated to ensuring the availability of essential medical and health resources, including emergency care, for the residents and visitors of Western Sierra County. Our mission is driven by the voices of those we serve, the community that faced a critical deficit in Advanced Life Support (ALS) services after the local clinic ceased 24/7 coverage in 2014.
Since then, we have worked to rebuild the entire EMS infrastructure, brick by brick, by securing sustainable funding through local tax measures, training a highly skilled team of volunteer responders, and implementing the full-time Paramedic Project and the Downieville Ambulance Urgent Care (DAUC).
We are the community's non-profit response to an ongoing need, focused on building a resilient and accessible emergency system that protects every life on the frontier.
